Ann’s Story –

They say that necessity is the mother of invention and this is certainly true for talented seamstress, Ann Watson.  A former HR high-flier, Ann found the transition into retirement challenging, and was ever on the lookout for ways to keep herself busy from her home crafts studio in rural Perthshire, Scotland.

On welcoming their pet Cockapoo, Mia, into the family, Ann struggled to find an off-the-peg dog coat in the right fit to keep Mia warm and dry during Scotland’s bracing winters. Knowing there was nothing Ann could not turn her creative hands to, husband Chris suggested she make Mia a coat herself, her response was, ‘why not?’

My first Made to Measure WrapAround Dog Coat

Mia’s first made-to-measure waterproof coat, in a high-viz day glow fabric, attracted compliments from friends, family, and fellow dog walkers alike and soon Ann was inundated with requests for her bespoke ‘WrapAround Dog Coat’ design for many furry friends.

Before long, the range had expanded to incorporate Belted Dog Coats in Cosy Fleece or Showerproof  designs and Ann suddenly realised that her lifelong hobby and passion had evolved into a small business; and from there the Cur Coats Boutique  was born.

When COVID-19 struck in March 2020, Ann was approached by friends and family to make them face coverings. Enlisting the support of Chris, a former engineer, they prototyped a design for breathable, re-usable and comfortable cotton face coverings. Starting with two adult and a child’s size, and in many fabric choices, demand exploded. And, fortunately for her people started to spread the word about Cur Coats.

Ann started selling her unique designs – from designer prints through to football crests, marvel characters and even mother-of-the-bride creations – throughout the UK. She now also offers a made-to-measure service for those requiring a more bespoke fit.

During 2020, Ann’s product line has extended into beautiful, handcrafted embroidered dog bandanas, double sided and personalised with pets’ names. Even Stirling Dog Behavioural Centre has commissioned Ann to hand craft their bandanas complete with their company logo.

More recently, Ann has turned her attention to dog owners looking to stay warm on their daily walks with a range of Cosy Collars (Snoods) in three unisex designs, some even twinning with the Fleece Jumpers, Suits and Tankies for the Pooches, which are currently her best seller!

Ann’s creativity is unending and work ethic unstoppable as she continues to bring innovative, hand crafted products to new and loyal customers throughout the UK.
